Welcome to the Engagement with SOL: An Immersion into Community! You're likely here because at some point this semester you'll be working with a community partner or organization. This is an exciting opportunity, but also one that requires some contextualization and reflection.

This series of modules, developed by the Morgridge Center for Public Service and adapted by St. John's University's Institute for Vincentian Action (IVI), is intended to help you better your understanding of what community means to you and how you will engage with others throughout this course/experience.

Engagement with SOL: An Immersion into Community Offerings

This workshop series is broken up into three modules, of which you may only be assigned one or two depending on your course. You are always welcome to enroll in all of the modules to more fully enhance your understanding of community engagement. The core module offerings are:

Introduction to Community Engagement - This introductory module explores our individual and collective motivations for engaging with community and the impact those motivations can have on our experience. This module also provides some general considerations and guidance regarding community engagement.
Contextualizing Community - The second module focuses on three key areas that impact our interactions with community: how we understand community, how we understand ourselves, and how we understand the big picture.
Engaging with Community - This module is focused on building skills and considerations crucial to engaging with community. From active listening to relationship building and building equitable partnerships, this module aims to ready you for engagement.
